With summer well upon us, a single thought dominates - holidays.

This year, take your vacation to new heights by staying at the homes of the rich and famous. Take a look at five of the most fabulous celebrity houses you can rent for the weekend (provided you have the cash.)

Gianni Versace - Miami, Florida, US

It doesn’t get more luxurious than the former home of Italian fashion impresario, Gianni Versace. The late designer lived in this palatial abode on Miami’s Ocean Drive until his murder on its front steps in 1997.

Fifteen years later, the opulent, marbled mansion reopened as a luxury boutique hotel christened The Villa Casa Casuarina, giving fans of the iconic designer the chance to relax in the mosaic tiled swimming pool and spend a night in Versace’s former bedroom, is now known as the Villa Suite -  assuming you can foot the bill.

A night in the Villa Suite starts at €1,937, excluding breakfast. Florida tourists on a tighter budget can peek inside the Versace mansion as day visitors, with a meal at the property’s five-star restaurant, Gianni’s.

Technically, football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has not lived at this property, but he did have a major role in designing it! Nestled on the idyllic Portuguese isle of Madeira, the four-star Pestana CR7 Funchal Hotel was created by the world-renowned athlete, just seven-minutes walk from the Cristiano Ronaldo museum.

Guests can enjoy a luxurious rooftop infinity pool, sauna and jacuzzi, as well as a modern open-air gym (abs like Ronaldo’s not included). The hotel is decorated with shirts, trophies and photos of Portugal’s most famous athlete, and you can dine in-house at the Pestana’s restaurant and bar.

At a remarkably reasonable €98 a night, the Pestana is far and away the best value celebrity stay on this list.
