The first films for the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival were announced on Thursday, with two Luxembourg co-productions making the cut.
The feature film Un Simple Accident by Jafar Panahi was selected for the official competition. The film was co-produced by Christel Henon’s Bidibul Productions and Lilian Eche.

Additionally, the animated film Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol by French director Sylvain Chomet has been chosen for a special screening in the official competition. The project is another Bidibul Productions co-production, developed in collaboration with French and Belgian partners.
Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol is a poetic hommage to the world of Marcel Pagnol, as seen through the eyes of his child “doppelganger”. The film was produced in Luxembourg by Lilian Eche in cooperation with Doghouse Studio and Philophon Studios.

To further promote Luxembourg’s film industry, the Luxembourg Film Fund will host a pavilion in Cannes’ International Village from 13 to 22 May. The village brings together around 20 industry structures, including production companies, post-production specialists, and new technology firms, alongside initiatives like the EAVE programme, the Luxembourg City Film Festival, and Creative Europe – Media.
On Saturday, 18 May, the annual “Luxembourg Day” will take place, attended by Minister of Culture Eric Thill, audiovisual professionals, and members of the press.
