New MusicToday Radio takes a look at this week’s prominent music releases

Steve Miller
At Today Radio there is only one thing we love more than new music, and that's GREAT new music!

So lend an ear and join Steve Miller (no, not that one!) as he tucks into his pick of some of this week’s most prominent music releases. You never know, your new favourite record may be in there!

Galantis, Little Bit Yours

Swedish electro outfit Galantis - headed up by über DJ and producer Christian Karlsson - team up with Hannah Boleyn (last seen collaborating with Billy Gillies) to deliver an unashamed, 90s dance floor throwback just in time for party season. “Little Bit Yours” is 100% ‘handbags-on-the-floor’ and is available now through Atlantic Records.

Bleachers Feat. Lana Del Ray, Alma Mater

If The National met up with Arcade Fire to flirt with the notion of becoming a 21st century Fleetwood Mac, you’d kind of have an idea of what Bleachers are up to on “Alma Mater”. Teaming up with Lana Del Ray, producer du jour Jack Antonoff guides his band through a delightfully reflective composition, wrapping it in a rich and layered production. With a solid Sax Factor™ of 7.5/10, the haunting, comforting and contemplative “Alma Mater” is out now via Dirty Hit.

MGMT, Bubblegum Dog

Kicking off like The Kinks meets Beck, MGMT’s new single is quite the oddity. A mix of 90s pop grunge and late 60s odysseys, “Bubblegum Dog” is a chilled groove featuring laidback vocals which often fleet between the styles of Presidents Of The United States of America and Flight of The Conchords. Mix in some Primus-type playfulness and you have the perfect song for those days when you’re stuck in a haze. To take “Bubblegum Dog” for a walk, head over to Mom & Pop.

Mannequin Pussy, Sometimes

Their latest aIbum ‘Got Heaven’ may not be out until 2024 but Philadelphia’s indie punk outfit Mannequin Pussy are happy to drop the album’s 3rd single to keep us content until then. With a delightfully fuzzy and rhythmic sound, “Sometimes” recalls the female-fronted energy of 90s rock groups such as The Breeders, Salad and Sleater-Kinney. Out now via Epitaph.

Bluai, My Kinda Woman

Antwerp-based 4-piece Bluai follow up their previous single “In Over My Head” with the playful “My Kinda Woman”, a banjo-infused slow rocker featuring a twang of Black Keys, a smattering of Alabama Shakes, and the merest hint of Morricone. You can pick up “My Kinda Woman” via Unday Records.

MUZZ, Don’t Stop

Like a double-espresso first thing in the morning, “Don’t Stop” by the UK’s electro artist Muzz is an ass-kicking banger reminiscent of mid-00s Prodigy, the remixes of Eddy Temple-Morris and, amusingly, 90s one-hit-wonders The Bombfunk MCs. So, if you’re in need of an energy injection or require encouragement to get somewhere fast, this is your fuel. “Don’t Stop” is out now via Liquid City.

If you’ve found some new tunes recently, have any recommendations for what we should be checking out, or simply have an earworm that you just can’t shift, then why not drop us the details via WhatsApp (+352 621 525 000) and, as our esteemed colleague Stephen ‘Steps’ Lowe always says, if we have it - we’ll play it!
