It most certainly has but with the release of new album, ‘The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light’, it’s safe to say that The Streets are back.
Lead man Mike Skinner has described the album as “the fruits of a decade on the DJ circuit, watching people in clubs and back rooms, testing out beats and basslines to see what connected”, and if lead single ‘Troubled Waters’ is anything to go by - this album is going to be classic Streets.
But, if fifteen shiny new compositions from Mr Skinner isn’t enough to satisfy you, the multi-talented cheeky chap from Birmingham keeps on pushing things forward with an accompanying film which will release alongside the new album.
Calling it a, “tripped out noir murder mystery based in London’s clubland”, Skinner has written, directed, shot, edited, scored, funded, and created his own special effects for the film; proclaiming that without the movie the album wouldn’t exist.
With no news of a European tour (yet!) we can only hope that an announcement will follow soon because, as anyone who has experienced them live will attest, The Streets in the flesh is next-level entertainment.
‘The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light’, is due to be released by 679 Recordings/Warner Music UK Ltd, on October 20th.
In the meantime, dry your eyes and check out the video for the fantastic lead single ‘Troubled Waters’.
