Fire crews are usually busy ensuring the safe arrival and departure of each aircraft on the ground, and intervening in a possible emergency, but thousands of grounded commercial flights have left the fire crew at LAX with some spare time.
The facebook page Aeronews shared a video of a little take-off battle between a Cargolux 747-8F and a fire truck belonging to the airport.
Users commented the rapid take-off of the Boeing, most likely indicating it was not carrying any cargo and thus could lift off swiftly. The fire truck can usually carry up to 6,000 litres of water, but was most likely also empty for this race.
The aircraft can carry up to 140 tonnes of freight - that’s roughly 40 cars!
