Gintare is a Lithuanian-born actress, author, scriptwriter, theatre director, and filmmaker from Luxembourg. She created and launched the web series “Ladybits” about two unapologetically honest actresses and best friends, Jean and Clémentine, showcasing the daily challenges that they face - professional as well as female and life challenges. The series features eight episodes, and was initially released in 2021 and produced by Deal Productions it is now available to watch in full on RTL Play.
Ladybits is an honest, intimate and personal show through which Gintare seeks to talk about things that are often considered shameful, painful, awkward, or all three, with the aim of making people feel more connected, less alone.
It’s an aim she seems to have achieved. In her interview with Melissa Dalton on RTL Today Radio, Gintare noted that she had never before received so many messages from people she didn’t know - something she puts down to the honesty of the project.
Speaking to what drove her in the creation of the show, Gintare notes that “by the time I wrote it I had lost quite some friends, to suicide, addictions, and mental health issues. So, you know, I also felt that female sexuality was so underrepresented in films. I also felt like the beauty of female friendships and sisterhood was slightly underrepresented, so I wanted it to be honest and funny, but also moving. To represent me and my female friends.”
She seeks to present these often tabu topics in a way that isn’t sensationalist, with the hope that people will feel like they are part of the friendship, while listening in to conversations that they shouldn’t hear as they are so personal.
