In a unanimous decision, the Luxembourg Film Academy has put forward "Breathing Underwater" to compete for a spot in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2026 Oscars.
The Luxembourg Film Academy has selected Breathing Underwater as its official submission for the "Best International Feature Film" category at the 2026 Academy Awards.
According to a press release, the decision to submit Eric Lamhène's debut feature was unanimous. The film, a Luxembourgish production by Samsa Film with Belgian co-producer Artémis Productions, was chosen both to promote new national talent and for its strong potential to represent the Grand Duchy on the international stage.
The jury reported being deeply moved by the powerful drama, which explores the invisible vulnerability of women, and was particularly convinced by the lead performance of actress Carla Juri.
It is important to note that the selection is an entry into the competition, not a nomination. The film will now undergo the Oscar selection process. An international jury will first shortlist 15 films from all international submissions.
A second round of voting will then narrow this list down to the five official nominees for the "Best International Feature Film" award.
The 98th Academy Awards, where the winner will be announced, are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on 15 March 2026.
