A new Luxembourg-themed mobile game that allows players to race through the streets of the capital is now available for download in the App Store and on Google Play.
'Roudy Racing' is not the first Luxembourg-themed video game to hit the market. Five years ago, 'Sigi - A Fart for Melusina' became available for the Nintendo Switch and quickly made its rounds in the Grand Duchy's gaming community.
'Roudy Racing' has little to do with a knight searching for a pretty siren, however. As already revealed by the title, it is a 3D racing game that lets players take control over an animated red lion and race across the streets of Luxembourg City. The game is exclusively available for smartphones and can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
In the game, the red lion races past some of Luxembourg City's most famous landmarks, including the Grand Ducal Palace, the 'Golden Lady', and the Notre-Dame Cathedral. There is also a variety of vehicles included in the game, which range from police cars to ambulances, firetrucks, vintage cars, and even a locomotive.
Boosters and gadgets, designed to help the player get the better of opponents, can be collected along the way. They have iconic Luxembourgish names, including 'Bouneschlupp Boost', 'Gromper Rutsch', and 'Mettwurscht Attack'. These loosely translate to 'Green-Bean Soup Boost', 'Potato Slide', and 'Saussage Attack'.
The game was developed by Luxembourgish start-up Virtual Rangers, which is headquartered the capital's Gare district.
Matthieu Bracchetti, founder and CEO of Virtual Rangers, provided insight into the development of the game: "Everything started out with the idea of providing a discovery tour of Luxembourg City with a touch of creativity and fun by developing an addictive game."
The game has been sponsored by Post Luxembourg, the country's number one telecommunications provider.
