This summer, next to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, under the shade of a majestic tree, the Cité Bibliothèque offers an open-air annex to leaf through books, magazines or newspapers. Reading sessions are on the programme as well, with authors from Luxembourg and abroad presenting their work. Lucien Czuga, together with Roger Leiner, worked on the famous Luxembourgish Superjhemp comic series, and this Friday at 7pm he will be reading from the book. If this is not your cup of tea, stroll by the area throughout the day. From 11am to 6pm, visitors will be able to read in the courtyard of the old library. Books in four different languages are available.

What: European dance network

While this event is not taking place over the weekend, it may be a nice one or more nights out in the following week. Each year the Aerowaves network selects 20 of the most promising emerging choreographers in Europe, and then promotes their work through cross-border performances. From Monday to Friday, two projects will take to the stage every evening at Neimenster. A 3-day pass is €49, but daily tickets are also available.

Last Summer Dance is a romantic, cute and relaxed family festival in northern Erpeldange-sur-Sure. Unfortunately the evening shows have already been sold out, but there are still tickets available for Saturday morning, which will see concerts by D’Halunken, Hannah Ida and IRINA, as well as workshops. A great way to launch into the weekend.

During the summer months, the Philharmonie invites you to a ‘behind the scenes’ visit. The tour (which, by the way, is the last of the season) will lead you through the building and showcase its design, before walking through the Grand Auditorium, Salle de Musique de Chambre, Espace Découverte and Foyer. Visitors will peak into the backstage area and technical department, all places normally closed to the public, but always bustling with action during a concert. The languages of the tours are announced in advance on the website, but may be adapted to the needs of the visitors at the beginning of the tour.

What: 1982 film on Vietnam

Shiomi Akutagawa, a Japanese photojournalist, travels to Vietnam to document life under communist rule. Government officials are all too happy to take him on a tour of villages that are clean, happy and healthy. But Shiomi is restless. He manages to break away from the government tour and sets out on his own. He meets Cam, a young boy, and a villager’s mistress, who become his guides to the Vietnam the government doesn’t want anyone to see.

Luxembourg-based Kid Colling, the modern blues-rock man with roots in Colombia, has been bringing a healthy dose of groove, funk and blues-rock to Luxembourg’s podiums in the last years. While his music is mainly flowing in the direction of blues, his compositions are accessible to all lovers of music, whether that’s rockers or pop folk.
