We often tend to stroll past the Grand Ducal Palace in the city centre, but have you ever gone inside and seen the splendid design, golden chandeliers, huge paintings and historic architecture? Before the Palace was constructed, the site housed the capital’s first town hall, which was unfortunately destroyed by an explosion in 1554. Since 1890, it has served as the Grand Ducal Palace, undergoing extensive renovations from 1992 until 1995. Take a moment to get inside the majestic building and book a guided tour, available throughout the week until 1 September.

Head over to the Main Hall of the Rockhal this summer (all possible due to the cancellation of large-scale concerts) to see some breathtaking “Animatronics”. The Diplodocus and its 20-metre-high will surely make you tremble, while the Giganotosaurus may snap at you with its immense jaw. Or try reaching out for the Pneranodon before it flies away, and immerse yourself in the Jurassic Park-like world thanks to a VR headset. An exciting day out!

When: Sunday, 18 July at 4pm - book a tour
Some of us may live in or around Luxembourg City, or at least commute to it on a fairly regular basis, but how much do you actually know about its past? The Luxembourg Story at the City Museum depicts a stunning 1,000 years of the capital’s history and evolution. Visitors will get an overview of the capital from the 10th century to the present day: from the castle of the counts to the modern city, through the influence of the Church and the centuries dominated by the fortress and its various garrisons. Economic activities, from medieval crafts to industrialisation and today’s financial centre are highlighted, as are the daily lives of its inhabitants.
PS: There is a free app available to guide you through the exhibition, with more “discovery-style” guides for kids available too.
