What: Traditional & modern jazz albums
Where: Streaming, digital and physical on Double Moon Records
When: Friday, 28 May
Luxembourg jazz groups Gilles Grethen Quartet and Michel Meis 4tet feat. Théo Ceccaldi are both releasing new albums this Friday, Time Suite and Kaboom, respectively. Grethen is a fine jazz guitarist, and his suite presents a refreshing sound that lies somewhere between traditional and modern jazz, with compositions characterised by lyrical melodies and virtuous playing by the band. Michel Meis, meanwhile, combines a variety of moods: there are mellow jazzy ballads, playful, luminous, almost dancy tracks and melancholic abstract miniatures on his record. Jazz from Luxembourg at its finest, both released on Double Moon Records, available for streaming and purchase this weekend.

In 1866, Professor Pierre M. Aronnax and his assistant Conseil, stranded in San Francisco by reports of a giant sea monster attacking ships in the Pacific Ocean, are invited to join an expedition to search for the creature. During the search, they and harpooner Ned Land are thrown overboard during an attack, eventually discovering that the supposed monster is actually a submarine piloted by the brilliant but haunted Captain Nemo. A real classic 1954 science fiction-adventure film, personally produced by the great Walt Disney himself and based off the 1870 novel by Jules Verne.

Printed texts and images have been part of European culture and knowledge society for over 500 years. The development of the printing press by Gutenberg around 1450 established typographic printing and for the first time imparted knowledge to many people. In the middle of the 19th century, the transition from manual printing to industrial printing took place, and hand presses were replaced by printing presses. Join this workshop over two days as you learn to craft your own printed artworks at the National Museum of History and Art.
