What's On? 12 February - 14 February7 things to do in and around Luxembourg this weekend

Josh Oudendijk
Welcome to the weekend! Yes, Sunday marks Valentine's Day (and we have a little suggestion further down), but there are concerts, exhibitions and workshops taking place on Friday and Saturday, too. Enjoy a wonderful, chilly weekend around Luxembourg. The weekend is yours!

2. Discover RTL Podcasts and Videos

What: RTL Today’s multimedia section
Where: Online on RTL Play
When:
Anytime, treat yourself!

Ok, this is a little cheeky adding this to a ‘What’s On’, but some of our news readers may not be aware that we have a growing library of original podcasts and video series on RTL Play. Ranging from ‘Success Story’ (Luxembourgish ‘Dragons Den’) to ‘Luxembourg History Podcast’ or ‘Anne’s Kitchen’ (cooking and travel show), there’s really a lot to discover. There’s more being produced as we speak, so stay tuned for some exciting material in the upcoming months.

3. Learn about Luxembourg’s reconstruction post WWII

What: A new beginning
Where: Musée National d’Histoire Militaire and Musée d’Histoire[s] Diekirch
When: Tuesdays - Sundays between 10am - 6pm - info here

For the first time since the end of the war, two museums explain the reconstruction of Luxembourg after 1945 both from a national and local perspective. The exhibition allows you to dive into a crucial, forgotten period of Luxembourgish contemporary history, traces of which still shape the country today.

4. Watch two Luxembourgish co-productions nominated for an Oscar

What: Luxembourgish work in international spotlight
Where: Online - COLLECTIVE is on Amazon, DEUX on Youtube
When: Film nights, anyone?

It’s rather historical: two films co-produced with Luxembourg have been nominated by The Academy for an Oscar. The nominated films are COLLECTIVE, directed by Alexander Nanau and co-produced by Samsa Film, and DEUX, directed by Filippe Meneghetti and coproduced by Tarantula Luxembourg. COLLECTIVE is nominated in two categories, namely Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film. DEUX is nominated in the Best International Feature Film category. Both films are available for purchase and streaming online.

5. Check out Rockhal concerts

What: Live music is back
Where: Rockhal, 5 Avenue du Rock’n’Roll, 4083 Esch-sur-Alzette
When: Between 12 February - 14 February, info & tickets here

Finally, after a one-year live music break, Rockhal is back organising concerts, labelled ‘Because Music Matters’, held on a 360° stage with the audience safely seated around it. There are only 100 seats per night, and attendees will have to agree to take a free Covid test before and a week after the concert, as well as adhering to strict sanitary protocols. This weekend you have the opportunity to explore the sounds of Claire Parsons + Klein (12 Feb), Fusion Bomb (13 Feb), and C’est Karma + Francis of Delirium (14 Feb). Get your valentine out there!

6. Go on the “Luxembourg Story” tour

What: History of Luxembourg
Where: City Museum, 14, rue du Saint-Esprit, L-1475 Luxembourg
When: Sunday, 14 February at 3pm -

info & reservations here

Every Sunday, a guide from the City Museum takes you on a private tour (max four participants) through 1000 years of urban history - more info on the English tour is found here, German/Luxembourgish here. The tour takes one hour. This is the perfect introduction to the city’s history, plus, as it’s absolutely freezing outside, allows you to enjoy a short talk in a warm space.

7. Share a special valentine’s gift box with a loved one

What: A little thank you
Where: Could be either virtual or in person
When: Sunday, 14 February

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and most will argue that one doesn’t need a dedicated day to show your love and appreciation for one’s better half, a dear friend, or family member. But it makes for a lovely surprise Sunday anyway. Why not put together a little gift box with local Luxembourgish food products or regional handcrafts? A lovely jar of jam or honey, speciality coffee roasted in Luxembourg, chocolate, wine from the Moselle Valley or a handcrafted teapot? Happy Valentine’s Day!

Is there an event you think we’d enjoy and like to share with our audience? Feel free to let us know through audience@rtltoday.lu and we may consider it for next week’s agenda.
