For her new project, Marly Marques is accompanied by some fantastic jazz musicians: Riaz Khabirpour, Niels Engel and Boris Schmidt. The singer honours her Portuguese origins and her love for Spanish and Latin American music by inviting the audience on a journey full of nostalgia, through traditional songs from the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, from fado to bossa nova and bolero. Traditional sounds thus mingle with jazz and form a very particular sonic identity, carried by the warm voice of Marly Marques and the sensitivity of her band.

This year, the traditional Red Cross Bazar, usually held at the Victor Hugo Hall, is being replaced by a digital platform and various pop-up events, one of which is this weekend at the Royal Hamilius mall. Explore and purchase design and vintage objects, kitchen and garden utensils, jewelleries, toys and food. All proceeds of the Bazar will go to children an young people particularly vulnerable due to the current health crisis, providing social and psychological support, help them succeed at school and promote the autonomy of young individuals. The winner has already been announced. Hisae Ikenaga is a Mexican-Spanish artist who lives and works in Luxembourg. Her art focuses on everyday objects which she modifies to give them different meanings and usages. Her work is full of irony and absurdity, as in her recent series representing an impossible archaeological discovery.

When a neighbourhood starts to become gentrified, a cabaret owner struggles to keep his club afloat. He is forced to take a stand against the powers that be to protect his family and livelihood, by any means necessary. The movie comes with English subtitles and is part of the Portuguese Film Festival in Luxembourg.

Geocaching is a really cool outdoor recreational activity in which participants use a GPS (either separate receiver or just with their mobile device) to seek little treasure containers called “geocaches” marked by coordinates. Once found, you take out your little gift and replace it with something else. It’s basically treasure hunting for young and old! Find out more about Geocaching by checking out if there are some caches located in your neighbourhood, there are quite some around in Luxembourg.

On the album Sonafari, released next March, Sonambique’s four accomplices are going on a dynamic and lively musical safari with music anchored in jazz and latin vibes. Its composer, Rotraut Jäger, is an enthusiastic flautist who surfs over Brazilian rhythms with plenty of oddmeters (to the non-musicians out there: odd rhythm feels, basically, making it hard to play but quite entertaining). To give you a taste of opera at the beginning of this season, the OPL and the Théâtres de la Ville decided to unite for an unforgettable evening. The orchestra, under the baton of Music Director Gustavo Gimeno, does not have far to travel from its home at the Philharmonie to take to the stage of the Grand Théâtre but it comes offering an elaborate journey dedicated to some of the great moments of operas by Mozart, Rossini and Verdi. You are invited to wander between Mantua and Naples, Seville and Windsor, alongside a cast of exceptional singers: the Italian soprano Rosa Feola, a renowned bel cantiste who appears regularly at La Scala in Milan, here in the guise of the overwhelming Traviata; the French mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa, acclaimed for her recent debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, who will scale Rossini’s heights; and the Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu who promises the virtuoso “Fuor del mar” from Mozart’s Idomeneo, before a final quartet from Rigoletto.
