Welcome to the weekend! Whether you want to explore the night of culture in Esch, sign up to a Bofferding tour, see upcoming talent at Rotondes or take part in the European Mobility Week, there are plenty of fun initiatives and events to get you out of the house safely (and with distance at all times).

1. Sign up to Irish Club Tour of Bofferding Brewery

What: Bofferding tour & tasting in good company
Where: 2 Boulevard J-F Kennedy, Bascharage, Luxembourg
When: Saturday, 10 October at 11am - sign up this month

The Irish Club of Luxembourg is organising a tour of the Bofferding Brewery in Bascharage on Saturday 10 October 2020 at 11:00am. The tour is in English, lasts one hour and introduces you to the different stages of the beer-making process in the brewery which was created in 1764. You will be able to smell and touch the raw materials, taste the pure water from the well, discover young beer and travel through more than two centuries of history. The tour will culminate in a one-hour tasting of 100% natural beers which will treat your taste buds to the flavours of hops and malt.

The cost is €15 per person (free to ICL paid-up members), but sign-ups are required before 30 September per email to fiona.mulhern@gmail.com. There will also be a joint dinner after, but everyone is free to choose whether they’d like to join for that part.

2. See upcoming talent at On Stéitsch festival

What: Free festival with over 150 participants
Where: Rotondes, Place des Rotondes
When: Saturday, 19 September between 2pm-12am

On Stéitsch is an annual festival organised by the National Youth Service, showcasing dance acts, rap groups, bands and singers on two stages throughout Saturday afternoon and evening. It’s a free festival and located right in the heart of Luxembourg, so a perfect spot for a relaxed Saturday. You’ll find yourself very impressed by the performances, as the level of professionality just keeps rising every year. Check out this great after movie below:

3. Join humanitarian protest with Europe Must Act

What: Protest against humintarian crisis at EU borders
Where: Four locations in city centre
When:
Sunday, 20 September between 4pm-6pm - more info in FB event

The dramatic situation on Lesbos island has been in the news a lot as of late. The organisations Passerell, Catch a Smile, Lëtz Rise Up and ASTI invite citizens to express their indignation and demand the complete evacuation of the camps in the Aegan islands, ensuring that 30,000 children, women and men are no longer trapped in this crisis.

Europe Must Act is a movement led by a coalition of more than 160 grassroots NGOs that actively support asylum seekers and refugees in Greece and the rest of Europe. The founding members of EMA decided to organise a campaign for a fair and humane asylum and immigration policy. Simultaneous protests will take place on Place Guillaume II, Place de la Gare, Pescatore Park and Place d’Armes. Please register yourself before, maintain distance and wear a face mask.

His music comes from Latin, Blues and Groove, with changing moods and a dynamic set list.

5. Explore Night of Culture in Esch

What: Night owls, get ready!
Where: All over Esch-sur-Alzette city centre
When: Saturday, 19 September between 4pm-12am

This is a wonderful event with the kids on Saturday afternoon. Expect performances, music, screenings, artwork, installations, storytelling and much more spread out across Esch-sur-Alzette. A real moment to rediscover the city. The full programme is available on the organisation’s website, and it is advised to reserve for certain things in advance. It’s going to be busy, so keep social distancing and face masks in mind.

6. Go for zero-emission mobility during European Mobility Week

What: Improving a mobile world
Where: Individual communes
When: Wednesday, 16 September - Sunday, 20 September

Since 2002, the European Mobility Week has taken place every year in September. Organised by the European Commission, the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of sustainable mobility as well as to improve the health and quality of life of residents. The European Mobility Week is mainly aimed at municipalities and encourages local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable transport measures inviting their citizens to try alternatives to the car.

The Verkéiersverbond is the national coordinator of the week and has gotten numerous municipalities onboard, which offer tours, kids events, food trucks and concerts. Check out the website and click on your municipality to see the full programme. Good thing this year, however: working from home means zero transport emissions!

7. Help out on World CleanUp Day 2020

What: Clean the streets from litter
Where: 1 Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, L- 4001, Esch-sure-Alzette
When: Friday, 18 September between 5.30pm-7.30pm

Over 150 countries mobilise on World CleanUp Day, making as many people as possible aware of the consistent littering we’re facing. With this collective action the aim is to clean the streets, but also to make other people aware that one cannot simply flick cigarette butts out of the car window, or drop a Red Bull can in the grass beside a motorway exit. The ASBL Pickitup will provide all the necessary equipment for you to make a difference and carry out the #cleanchallenge

Is there an event you think we’d enjoy and like to share with our audience? Feel free to let us know through audience@rtltoday.lu and we may consider it for next week’s agenda.
