The pilot of Capitani initially aired in September 2019, introducing Luxembourg and the world to inspector Luc Capitani and policewoman Elsa Ley for a first time. Luc Schiltz and Sophie Mousel portray the show’s two lead characters.
In a short span of time, Capitani became iconic in the Grand Duchy and reported record-breaking ratings. 158,000(*) people above the age of 16 (31%) watched at least one episode of the crime show’s first series.
A year later, Capitani also broke internationally and managed to stay one of Netlfix’ ten most-watched shows in a number of countries.

Series two was thus highly anticipated, with the plot being moved from the Grand Duchy’s rural areas to the capital’s Gare district. The first episode premiered on Tuesday, 22 February, and the rest of the series aired on a weekly basis until 29 March.
According to a survey carried out by TNS-Ilres, awareness and popularity of Capitani is at elevated levels, and increased even further with the release of the second series.
Awareness rose from 56% to 94% (**). Viewership increased by a staggering 42% to reach 232,000 (**) people above the age of 16. Furthermore, 39% (**) of the population watched some or all episodes during original air time, Tuesdays at 8pm on RTL Television.

38% (**) made use of RTL Play to catch up on episodes after they were released, 24 % (**) used the replay on TV. 7% of the population exclusively watched Capitani on television, 4% exclusively on the internet. 33% used a combination of both offers.
Series two spoke more to younger viewers, with 54% of the population aged 16-34 having viewed the series. In total, the series measured 135,000 viewers under the age of 45.
Whether or not the second Capitani series will be as successful on the global stage as the first one still has to show.
You can still watch all episodes of Capitani 2 on RTL Play until 12 June.
TNS-Ilres conducted two surveys in relation to the crime show: one in February 2020, including 778 interviews with people above the age of 16, and one in May 2022, including 780 interviews with people above the age of 16.
