Originally intended mainly for a French-speaking audience, the festival has grown in recent years to become a major cultural event in the Greater Region, attracting a wide range of international visitors and musicians to Luxembourg's southern capital.

Since 2021, Francofolies has been organised every spring by the Francofolies Association, which was established in 2019 under the leadership of President Loïc Clairet. Each year, the festival has expanded, both in size and duration, and the complexity of organising such a large-scale event has increased accordingly.

Diverse line-up, new features

Alongside international stars such as Macklemore, GIMS, and PLK, the festival also provides a stage for emerging Luxembourgish acts like Ninon and Marcy, showcasing local talent to a wider audience.

To keep up with the festival's ongoing growth, organisers have introduced new elements this year to draw even more people to Esch's Gaalgebierg. "We are always looking for ways to innovate and bring in new audiences", explained Francofolies President and Festival Director Loïc Clairet.

The Francofolies now extend beyond a single weekend. Even before the official launch, residents and visitors were able to enjoy a range of events across Esch, setting the mood for the days ahead. For example, Canadian artist Adam El Mouna opened the "hors les murs" ("beyond the walls") programme at Kulturfabrik, bringing festival spirit to venues throughout the city.

Music fans have until Sunday evening to experience the full range of concerts and activities at this year's Francofolies in Esch.
