From February 19th to the 26th, the Philharmonie de Paris is celebrating the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union by hosting an ambitious and highly symbolic project that brings together an orchestra of 120 young musicians from the 27 EU member states. Each country will be represented by 2 to 6 musicians, aged 12 to 17 selected on the basis of musical and social criteria. Young Luxembourg musicians will also be present.
Three young musicians, Fatima Calciolari (flute) from the École de musique in Kehlen, Cassandra Desiles (flute) and Marco Monteiro (violin) from the École de musique in Differdange will be joining the ODE project, “Démos Europe Orchestra” named after the Philharmonie’s musical and orchestral education outreach programme for an intense week of rehearsals and a final concert on February 26 at the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez. The musicians will be overseen by the renowned conductors Corinna Niemeyer, and Rebecca Tong the winner of the international competition for women conductors La Maestra 2020. The program will include pieces by Beethoven Moussorgsky, Grieg and an original piece by Alexandros Markeas. They will be joined by a 150- piece choir from the Orchestre de Paris’ children’s choir as well as from the EVE project (which in French stands for “Together we exist with our voice”).
El Sistema Luxembourg is looking to bridge the gap that exists between Luxembourg’s vast music education institutions and minority groups, often disadvantaged new arrivals, who struggle to navigate the system. El Sistema Luxembourg works closely with music schools who seek to increase the diversity in their student population, families who need logistical support and local organizations that share the same goals. In Luxembourg these values are shared with the Fondation EME with whom El Sistema Luxembourg will partner with in upcoming projects.
