Luxembourgish actress Vicky Krieps is to receive the Tiff Tribute Performer Award at this year's Toronto Film Festival on Saturday.

Krieps is appearing in Toronto for the world premiere of 19th-century Western romantic drama The Dead Don’t Hurt, in which she stars opposite Viggo Mortensen. Directed by Mortensen, the film tells the story of a French-Canadian flower seller (Krieps) who conducts a romance with a Danish immigrant, set against the backdrop of the Civil War.

Cameron Bailey, CEO of the Toronto Film Festival, said in a statement on Tuesday: “Vicky’s transformative performances illuminate the screen, weaving emotions into a tapestry of storytelling. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to embody diverse roles with profound authenticity make her a true luminary in the realm of cinema.”

After her breakout role in Phantom Thread, Krieps’ career has gone from strength to strength, with appearances in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old and Mia Hansen-Love’s Bergman Island. Last year, Krieps took home the Un Certain Regard Best Performance Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as winning Best Actress at the European Film Awards for her lead role as Empress Elisabeth of Austria in Corsage.
