The world of cinema has become a little more baby-friendly in Luxembourg, thanks to a special collaboration between Family Matters and Kinepolis Luxembourg.
On 2 October, the first-ever baby cinema sessions took place, offering parents and their little ones a unique movie-going experience.
Held at Kinepolis Belval and Kirchberg, the sessions included screenings with softer lighting, adjusted sound levels, and even changing tables for quick nappy changes. The French version played in Belval, while the original version with subtitles was shown in Kirchberg.
Prams lined the cinema foyer, setting the tone for a cosy, family-centred afternoon.
The baby cinema is aimed at parents with babies up to eight months old, offering them a rare chance to enjoy a film without the worry of disturbing other patrons.
To make this experience super comfortable, the sound and light is adapted at these sessions as to not disturb their sleep or well-being. A changing table is available in the room, and parents and babies also get to meet each other in the moments before and after the film.
One mom shared her excitement at finally being able to visit the cinema with her friends and their babies, “I'm happy I could come! I thought I’d have to miss out on going to the cinema for another year or two.”
Another mother, enjoying the perks of parental leave, said, “It’s great! Before, I couldn’t take my baby in because they were under two. Now, I get to spend time with my friends who also have babies, and it’s the perfect thing to do together during parental leave.”
For some, it was the experience of sharing this with their babies that made it special. “It was a fun daytime activity for me and my friend. Without this initiative, I wouldn’t be able to go to the cinema at all.”
The initiative’s thoughtful design didn’t go unnoticed either. “The volume was well adjusted – not too loud for the babies, and the lighting helped with caring for them during the film,” said another happy attendee. “I’ll come back!”
There’s still a chance to experience this innovative cinema outing, as further sessions are scheduled for 6 November and 4 December.
The film for the next session has not yet been revealed, but keep your eyes peeled on our website in the upcoming weeks. Pre-sales are coming soon!
