The Ministry of Culture has announced that level -5 of the National Archives was flooded due to a blocked pipeline.

The blocked pipeline, located at the Saint Esprit carpark, caused a significant amount of damage to archival documents despite the work of the authorities.

Luxembourg City professional firefighters, water management services, and public buildings services were quick to remove the water.

However, an estimated 750 to 1,000 metres of documents have been damaged. Since the flooding, the authorities have been working hard to salvage the damaged documents.

A large portion of the archives has been moved to safety in chilled rooms.
