Esch's local council supported the idea of securing a preservation order for the building.

On Friday, Esch's municipal council announced that the city of Esch would purchase the former cinema Ariston. The building will be turned into a youth and children's theatre.

Mayor Georges Mischo also supported the idea of securing a preservation order for the iconic building.

Luxembourg's ministry of culture and the commission for monumental protection will contribute half of the costs, estimated to lie between €2-3 million.
