
In the week of 19-25 September, Covid infections in Luxembourg jumped by 33%, up from 999 cases to 1,300 cases, particularly amongst children.
Out of all positive cases, 32% were reinfections (613 people) compared to 29.7% (423) people last week. The average age of those infected was 40.5 years old.
Most new cases were reported in 5-14-year-olds (an increase of 116%), most certainly due to the return to school, as well as in 5-9-year-olds (383 cases per 100,000) and residents above 95 (382 per 100,000).
There were no new deaths.
6,455 PCR tests were administered in the week of 19-25 September, up from 5,653.
On 25 September there were 2,611 active infections in the country, compared to 2,076 on 18 September. 286,726 people have recovered from the virus since the pandemic broke out.
There were 11 new hospital admissions, five more than the week prior, with 1 person in intensive care. The average age of hospitalised patients is 54.
The reproduction rate (RT eff) has risen to by 0.03 to 1.18, and the positivity rate now stands at 20.17%.
There were 12 positive cases from a rapid antigen test, which are not included in the positivity rate calculations.
The incidence rate is 201 per 100,000 inhabitants across seven days, up from 155.
26% of infections could be traced back to family circles, 17% to trips abroad, 9% to education and 8% to the workplace. A source could not be identified for other cases.
