Smoking in the street has already been banned as a coronavirus risk in Spain. Should Luxembourg follow suit?
Since mid-August, Spain has rendered it illegal to smoke in the street where social distancing cannot be maintained. The measure was taken to prevent asymptomatic carriers of the new disease from infecting others while having a cigarette, but other countries are yet to introduce similar regulations.
Responding to a parliamentary question from MP Nancy Kemp-Arendt (CSV), Luxembourg's Ministry of Health said it was 'following closely' the experimental new measures and their 'eventual consequences on the spread on the virus.'
The government stressed that it would follow scientific advice 'before deciding on whether such a regulation should be introduced in Luxembourg.'
It seems that for now, therefore, the measure will continue to be implemented only in Spain.
Is that the right decision? Let us know in the comments below!
