The press will now also become eligible for governmental support as the advertising industry has registered major losses since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis.

Prime minister Xavier Bettel made the announcement during Thursday's session of the Chamber of Deputies. According to sources from "Reporter", the administration gave the green light to the extraordinary aid on Wednesday.

The support envisions an allocation of up to €200,000 per media company and €5,000 per journalist (with a maximum of 40 journalists being eligible). A series of conditions need to be fulfilled to receive the financial support however.

Some media companies had previously written a letter to the minister for communications and media Xavier Bettel to explain the challenges faced in the ongoing crisis.
