According to RTL sources, Luxembourg MEP Monica Semedo is facing renewed accusations of bullying and harassment from her staff at the EU Parliament.
RTL sources indicate that the EU Parliament's Advisory Committee on harassment has already decided to launch an enquiry. In the end, it will be up to Roberta Metsola, president of the EU Parliament, to decide over potential consequences for Semedo.
Upon enquiry, Semedo explained that the accusations against her are unfounded and wrong, and that she contests them. At this stage, she said she only has to answer to the EU Parliament, an institution that she respects.
The MEP emphasised that she launched a procedure against one of her assistants in December 2021 to have his contract terminated, as he behaved "unprofessionally". After that, the assistant filed his complaint.
Semedo expressed disappointment over the fact that the issue has already made rounds: "Once again, the confidentiality clauses of the EU Parliament, designed to protect both parties, have not been respected."
In early 2021, Semedo was accused of bullying her three assistants in the EU institution. Former president David Sassoli then decided to penalise the Luxembourgish MEP with a two-week suspension without compensation.
Following the bullying case, Semedo decided to leave the Democratic Party as she felt abandoned by them. However, she also decided to stay on as MEP and now works for the Renew Euope group, to which DP also belongs.
