The number of coronavirus deaths in Rheinland-Pfalz has risen by one.

As of Wednesday's figures, provided by the Minsitry of Health in Mains, there are 196 people currently infected with COVID-19, four more than on Tuesday.

The number of deaths climbed to 236, while the total recoveries climbed by four cases to 6,668.

The district of Germersheim still accounts for the majority of cases, with a further 14 per 100,000 inhabitants. In Speyer, to the north, the figure has now fallen to eight per 100,000 inhabitants. The threshold for lockdown, agreed by the federal and state governments for new restrictions on public life is 50 cases – well above that.

According to the latest estimate by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the so-called seven-day reproduction rate in the Pfalz region is 0.79.
