TEDxLuxembourgCity organiser issues call for volunteers

Dirk joined Melissa Dalton's The Home Stretch to share his plans for TEDxLuxembourgCity to expand.

He told Melissa that he is looking to make the events more involved and more frequent. He hopes to build on the success of TEDxLuxembourgCity in 2021 and this year's TEDxEducation event.

Dirk wants to get more people involved in the organisation and is recruiting for a number of volunteer 'officer' positions for the 2023 edition.

Dirk described the volunteering opportunities as a "wonderful opportunity". He said they were trying to do "something different and bigger", with a full-day event for the first time.

Ideas for next year's events include interactive workshops and events on hot topics such as cryptocurrencies.

Dirk explained that the whole organisation is based on volunteers, saying it's all based on "passion" to teach and share interesting ideas.

He explained how the team of volunteers gather together to discuss what the community in Luxembourg City want to hear about. They then approach people who they think would make interesting speakers.

All speakers are also volunteers. Dirk thinks this voluntary aspect is key to the magic of TEDxLuxembourg, saying that "everyone is together, they're all committing their time... and they like working with each other... everybody is motivated."

Dirk described the "feeling of euphoria" when the event is over. All the volunteers are invited on stage for a group picture and applause. He said it was an "amazing" feeling when the volunteers were cheered on by 1,200 attendees at the Philharmonie.

Upcoming events

The next event is planned for January 2023, followed by a TEDxEducation event in June.

The team are also planning smaller TEDxSalon events. One of the positions available is a TEDxSalon organiser, to help arrange smaller discussion groups and talks every month or two.

There's also the possibility of running a TEDxWomen event, which was last run two years ago.
