In the past two weeks I read seemingly impossible news (two cyclists had accidents involving cars, one person killed while running).
I, too, have had my problems while cycling. Yet this raises a few serious question that would be worthwhile writing an article about:
A. Why does the Luxembourg government make laws that cannot/ aren’t enforced/ enforceable? (ex. The right of cyclists to use the road: I had, twice this week, drivers hooting the horn because they wanted me to move out of the way.
In the second case I was cycling behind my 10 year old son and the car drove behind me hooting the horn.
In order to avoid colliding with my son (who slowed down because he got frightened), I had to go off the road and fell off my bike.
B. If the rules are enforceable, how can I make a report, and what can I expect to happen when I make the report?
It is crazy to have these experiences in some of the country’s least frequented roads, particularly during the coronavirus period.
For sure there are many ignorant people out there ... but can we stop them?
Same issue with enforcing the law even over the distance of overtaking cyclists as well as mobile phone users by drivers...
RTL Today - inquired about the road safety guidelines during counter measures and there is no change. The rules remain as they were at the beginning of the year and the reports should be made to the police. We contacted Mr. Brugeja to ask his permission for the post to be recreated here.
