Cannabidiol, often referred to as CBD, can often be confusing for people who've never tried it before.

Diana Calvário runs the CBD shop Dreams in Lorentzweiler and has written some tips to help people understand the benefits of CBD products - and how they differ from cannabis. Dreams is an alternative medicine shop selling CBD products and superfoods for the entire family and pets, but also offers advice and information on CBD.

Calvário has put together some information concerning cannabidiol products, which is often what she tells new customers. Speaking to RTL Today, she says that some people come in and are still afraid of it being cannabis.

The history of cannabis

First of all, Calvário highlighted the actual history of cannabis and its use before it became a recreational drug:

"Before it became a drug, it was a healing plant in China, Egypt and other countries in the Far East. Hundreds of years later, it was also used in the industry in multiple ways across Europe and in the USA. Yes, correct, we are talking about Cannabis (Marijuana or Hemp). "

CBD in Luxembourg

Since 2016 the cannabis flower has been sold legally in Luxembourg if the THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) level of the "buds" does not exceed the 0.3% threshold.
THC, one of many molecules of the Cannabis plant, is known to have a psychoactive effect.

One other known molecule is CBD (Cannabidiol), a compound of Cannabis which does not have a psychoactive effect on you. Crucially, that means it doesn’t produce the "high" associated with THC.

CBD uses

CBD is used to relieve chronic pain. It is used for migraine, cramps, arthritis, inflammation, and epilepsy. It has a calming effect on you and is therefore also used for anxiety and other neurological diseases.

The main reason for the hype about CBD nowadays is linked to its natural compounds. Many people see this as an alternative to pharmaceutical remedies known to have side effects if used for longer periods. CBD works in many ways but it is important to discuss with your doctor before using it, especially if you are thinking in using it as a replacement of your daily medication.
