An apple a day keeps the doctor away - and we have it on good authority that apples you picked yourself count double.

The annual apple festival in Steinsel is a bit of an institution in Luxembourg, and particularly popular with families. So if you're looking for something to do with your kids this (or the next two) weekend, you need look no further. That said, kids are not a prerequisite for entry and you're more than welcome to go apple picking even if you don't have children.

What to expect

Apples, and lots of them. The Steinsel apple orchards span 12 hectares, with 25,000 trees and 12 apple varieties.

While the idea is that you pick your own apples (and yes, you can 'try before you buy'), you will also find boxes of apples ready for purchase if manual labour is not your idea of a fun day out.

In addition to the apple picking there will be food and drinks available for purchase.

When is it?

The event usually runs over three weekends, from the last weekend in September into the middleof October, with open hours generally between 10am and 6pm.

Where is it?

At the Steinsel apple orchards:  Montée Haute, Rue des Champs, 7323 Steinsel

Happy picking!
