Despite a promising first half, Luxembourg were overwhelmed by Malta, losing 1-0 at the Stade de Luxembourg on Friday night.
It was not the most optimistic outcome to a game designed to prepare the Red Lions for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Luc Holtz's men showed promise in the first half, but despite dominating possession and several chances for Gerson Rodrigues, the score remained 0-0 at half time.

Holtz substituted Ralph Schon for Tiago Pereira Cardoso in the second half, and the young goalkeeper was immediately faced with challenges from their Maltese opponents. Luxembourg had lost momentum. Despite some valiant saves, Kyrian Nwoko scored for the visitors in the 64th minute. Even six minutes of added time were insufficient for Luxembourg to mount a successful attack, and the match ended 1-0 - the first loss to Malta in 11 years.
The FLF team will face Liechtenstein at home next on 17 JUne, followed by Bosnia-Herzegovina away on 20 June. Both games will be streamed live right here on RTL!
