Kamala Harris has garnered substantial backing for her presidential campaign from within the Democratic Party.
An online poll, conducted late into the night and engaging 4,500 political representatives, showed overwhelming support for Harris, who garnered 99% of the votes.
At 59, Harris was the only candidate on the ballot in a five-day electronic vote among nearly 4,000 party convention delegates. As the first Black and South Asian woman to secure a major party’s nomination, she is set to be officially nominated at a Chicago convention later this month.
The next step for Harris is formal endorsement by the Democratic Party’s leadership, which will solidify her candidacy. As the campaign moves forward, speculation is growing about Harris's choice for a vice-presidential running mate.
She is currently considering two prominent figures: Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, and Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota.
