In recent hours, several individuals have been apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol, with Luxembourg police reporting the withdrawal of five driving licences between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

The apprehensions varied in nature, with some drivers caught due to erratic driving behaviour, others for speeding, and two following involvement in accidents.

One incident occurred between Gonderange and Rodenbourg, where a driver veered off the road, colliding with a tree and multiple road signs before coming to a halt in a field. Upon arrival, officers administered a breathalyser test, resulting in an immediate licence withdrawal due to a positive reading.

In another incident on the N8 near Saeul, a driver veered off the road, leaving their vehicle lodged in a ravine. Subsequent police checks confirmed that the driver was inebriated, leading to the withdrawal of their licence.

Additional licence withdrawals occurred in Belval, Useldange, and Mersch.

Two major alcohol checks on Friday night

The police also conducted two major enforcement operations on Friday night, one in Grevenmacher and the other in Luxembourg City and Hesperange.

Over 340 motorists underwent testing, with 11 registering positive alcohol tests. While no licences were withdrawn, five penalty notices were issued.
