A number of young pupils spent a special afternoon at the palace on Thursday afternoon.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa welcomed pupils from the Lycée Vauban, children with special needs and young refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and Eritrea to a special children's reception at the palace in Luxembourg City.

As part of the festivities, children visiting with the Centre of Intellectual Development (CDI) staged a specially-adapted performance of the national anthem using gestures and signs.

The Grand Ducal court website explained the visit was part of a campaign to raise awareness for children with special needs.
