The German police issued the missing person's report for the Trier resident on Friday, which was shared by the University of Luxembourg in a post on social media.

According to police statement, 36-year-old Thomas Hoppenheit had last been in contact with friends and family on 15 March.

A search operation launched by the police has so far been unsuccessful. For this reason, the authorities decided to launch a public search.

In a social media post, the University of Luxembourg stated that Hoppenheit's friends and family as well as the university are "incredibly worried."

The 36-year-old is a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History at the University of Luxembourg.

The police describe him as between 1.85 and 1.90 metres tall, with a dark blonde beard and glasses. Hoppenheimer also has dark blonde hair.
