A planned reform envisions to increase government support for childminders and further introduce a one-off subsidy for the purchase of materials.

The reform was already accepted by the government council on Wednesday.

Government support is supposed to increase from €3.75 to €5.40 per hour per child. Childminders can ask for more, but parents will have to cover the difference. Furthermore, childminders are supposed to get a one-time subsidy of up to €3,000 to buy material.

At the moment, there are about 400 accredited childminders in Luxembourg, though their number has been in decline since last year.
