Last week, Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes announced targeted tax relief measures.
According to information obtained by RTL, the targeted tax breaks announced by the government will only be discussed after the carnival holidays. An interministerial panel including members from all three government parties will be tasked to determine the framework, amounts, and duration of the tax breaks.
In an interview with our colleagues from RTL Radio on Tuesday morning, MP Carole Hartmann from the Democratic Party (DP) defended her party colleague Yuriko Backes against criticism from the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) and the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB). Hartmann argued that tax credits are "less complex" and can be implemented more quickly than adjusting the tax table for inflation.
When asked whether the tax breaks will be staggered, like the 'Energy' tax credit that expires on 1 April, Hartmann replied that she thinks this is "certainly worth discussing."
