Several attacks on bus drivers by passengers have been reported in the past few weeks.
In response to a parliamentary question from CSV deputy Leon Gloden, the Minister for Mobility François Bausch announced that from January onwards, glass cabins will be installed to protect bus drivers.
All newly commissioned buses will have protective glass cabins, whilst older buses will be gradually altered over the next 18 months.
At the moment, a protection system is already in place that allows drivers to contact the central office discreetly in case of assault. They can press a button without the aggressor noticing. At that point, what is said on the bus would be transmitted to the central office, who in turn could intervene or send help if necessary.
