In a press release, waste-management company Valorlux announced positive results in regards to the expansion of packaging authorised for recyclincg via its blue bags.
Since the beginning of the expansion in 2021, the amount of waste collected by Valorlux has increased from 9,000 to close to 13,000 tonnes. The company was able to recycle 85% of the collected waste, which represents a 7% increase compared to the period preceding the modernisation of the sorting mechanism.
According to the Valorlux statement, one in ten types of packaging cannot be recycled.
PET packaging remains problematic, but the EU is working on a solution, the statement further notes. At present, Valorlux remains unable to recycle packaging made out of multiple materials, such as coffee and crisp bags, as it is not yet possible to separate individual layers.
