More than half of counterfeit drugs found in Luxembourg are remedies for erectile dysfunction, some of which may provoke fatal consequences when consumed.

In the last five years, customs authorities intercepted 5,600 counterfeit drugs. More than half of them were remedies for erectile disfunction, some of which wrongly indicated that they contain the active components Sildenafil and Tadalafil.

Researchers at the National Health Laboratory (LNS) in Dudelange analysed the drugs and found that one in three pills failed to meet the European quality standards. The LNS further warns people about the risks of buying counterfeit drugs, the consumption of which may very well have deadly consequences.

In Luxembourg, online sales of drugs are only permitted for substances that do not require a prescription.
