Officials from the southern town plan on introducing a new safety concept ahead of next year's elections.

The municipality of Esch-sur-Alzette plans on presenting a new safety concept for the town ahead of next year's elections. The current concept dates back more than 20 years and only saw individual adaptations being made over the course of time.

An entirely new concept is now expected to introduce surveillance cameras across town. Contrary to the footage recorded in Luxembourg City, the one in Esch-sur-Alzette will not be analysed live, but recorded and temporarily saved so that police can check it if needed.

Municipality and police also plan on conducting a joint analysis of security problems in the southern town to determine the number and type of violations found in different locations at different times. Police presence is expected to be adjusted accordingly. Similarly, lighting in certain locations is to be improved.

The new safety concept will be presented in six months.
