The incident occurred on Monday morning.

The driver initially tried to get his electric car onto the Oberbillig ferry, but somehow failed to complete the manoeuvre successfully.

According to sources, the vehicle first broke through a barrier and then proceeded to drift about 20 metres out into the water.

Fortunately, staff and passengers from the ferry, among which was a former Luxembourgish firefighter, intervened and helped free the man from his vehicle. Though uninjured, the driver was in shock both because of the accident and because of the cold water, which was about 4°C at the time.

Emergency services finally managed to recover the vehicle from the water after a two-hour-long operation.
