On Monday morning, the Minister for Energy invited the press to a briefing on alternative energy sources.
One of the central pillars of renewable energy is hydrogen, Claude Turmes emphasised during the press conference: "In some sectors, such as heavy industry, for instance, it will be difficult to replace fossil fuels with electric alternatives. However, hydrogen represents a promising carbon-free alternative in that sector."
Not only can hydrogen help store energy, but it can also release it without any carbon emissions. Furthermore, renewable hydrogen represents an alternative which does not emit any greenhouse gases in its production process.
In other domains, Luxembourg will continue replacing fossil fuels with electric alternatives, while hydrogen will act as complimentary support, Turmes further explained. A first step in that process will be to replace fossil-based hydrogen with renewable one.
On Wednesday, Turmes will present the complete strategy to the Chamber of Deputies.
