Minister for Consumer Protection Paulette Lenert and Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development Romain Schneider presented the draft law on Monday.

The new law is designed to tackle challenges in the domains of nutrition, waste, and sustainability. A new council, made up of 24 members, will help coordinate appropriate responses and strategies between all concerned parties. Furthermore, an inter-ministerial nutrition commission will be put into place to monitor the policies.

The ultimate goal of the project is to improve the lives and work of producers, distributors, as well as consumers. Ideally, transparency will be increased so that it is easier for people to retrace where their food is coming from. This should also facilitate the process of switching to a more sustainable form of nutrition.

The state council already approved both respective law proposals at the beginning of September.
