Minister for Family Affairs and Integration Corinne Cahen provided these statistics in her response to a respective parliamentary enquiry by MPs Marc Goergen (The Pirate Party) and Fernand Kartheiser (ADR) on Monday.

In Luxembourg, close to 6,000 rooms and 6,400 beds are being offered across more than 50 retirement homes.

271 of these rooms, spread across seven different homes, have no individual toilet, while 495 in ten different homes lack a personal shower. Mostly affected are the homes in Niederkorn, Rumelange, Differdange, and Vianden.

The requirement for homes to install rooms with personal bathrooms of at least five square metres has only been in place for eleven years, Minister Cahen further conveyed. The requirement further notes that a bathroom must be equipped with a shower, toilet, and sink.
