In the context of a parliamentary enquiry, the Minister of Health provided insight into the management of the supply chain for medical cannabis.

All three strains that are used for medical purposes are short in supply. A new supply offer was therefore launched at the end of last year, but no suitable replacement candidate has yet been found, Minister Lenert explained.

The process is however ongoing, she emphasised, and it remains to be seen when the next delivery will arrive.

In her official response to MP Sven Clement from the Pirate Party, Minister Lenert also noted that consumption tendencies of patients have seen an increase since November 2020, thus exceeding the anticipated order.

She therefore uderlined that stocks are carefully managed by hospital pharmacies, meaning that even when a delivery has not been supplied, there is still a reserve.

In her response, the Minister of Health also recognised the use of cannabis as a valid treatment alternative.
