Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch provided insight into Cargolux operations in his response to an official enquiry by MP Marc Hansen (Pirate Party).

Last year, Cargolux had 970 night flights at Findel airport, a rise of 60 flights compared to 2019. This year, 300 flights have already departed or landed at Findel at night.

However, from 2019 to 2020, the number of combined nightly flights at the Luxembourgish airport decreased by 500 to reach 1,400. Luxair, for instance, operated 165 night flights in 2020.

When it comes to the carbon footprint of Cargolux, Ministers Bausch and Dieschbourg from The Greens noted that a 5% reduction took place over the last decade. Last year, Cargolux planes used 1.2 million tonnes of kerosine, which created around 3.9 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The parliamentary enquiry was filed shortly after Christiane Wickler was nominated as new president of the Cargolux administrative board.
