The party's local politicians are not satisfied with the reaction of both the Ministry of the Environment and the municipality of Luxembourg City.
The issue revolves around a potential pollution with heavy metals, caused by a construction site close to a former landfill. The Left Party's local section criticises the fact that the Ministry of the Environment is not carrying out targeted analyses of the groundwater.
Despite a previously carried out treatment, a certain level of pollution still remains, according to the party, which also finds it "unacceptable" that the municipal authorities are continuing to shift responsibility onto the Ministry.
Due to these and other criticisms, the party demands that the construction work be halted, the site cleaned in accordance with the "polluter pays" principle, and that further analyses be carried out before any construction projects are allowed to be completed on the site.
