Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn made this statement during the latest videoconference with his European counterparts.
Asselborn demanded that the current plans by some member states to close borders must be in proportion to the actual situation.
During the videoconference on Tuesday, the Minister pointed out that one third of the EU's entire population lived and worked in border regions. This must be taken into account and under no circumstances must these people be restricted in their right to freedom of movement, Asselborn stressed.
Regarding the discussion around "vaccine passports", Asselborn stated that, in his eyes, the debate is premature and not appropriate at the current stage of the pandemic. However, from a medical point of view, such documents could of course be useful, the Minister added.
