Horesca has been preparing for the reopening of restaurants and cafés in Luxembourg for weeks.

The National Federation of Hoteliers, Restaurateurs and Cafetiers has prepared both a guide and signage for businesses to use when they reopen. The new "Safe to serve" label will act as a gauge of quality and confidence during the health crisis.

In a statement, the federation said the label would act as a guarantee that the establishment has followed all required sanitary measures and is ready to accommodate customers in the best conditions.

In order to obtain the label, business owners within the sector must sign a membership charter and must pledge to respect four essential criteria:

  1. Register the establishment with the Government Commissariat for Food Quality and Safety;
  2. Respect good hygiene practices;
  3. Respect the government Covid-19 advice;
  4. Implement necessary procedures (masks, social distancing) to guarantee the safety of clients and staff.

The signatories of this charter will be able to display the "Safe to Serve" label, which must be clearly visible when restaurants and cafes can reopen in Luxembourg. Their reopening is currently not expected until June at the earliest.
